Pocket Door Mortise Set - Just a couple of months ago I went over to fix a pocket door that was closing at a bizarre angle. It was the very first time I had ran into this sort of situation and was undoubtedly confused. I began looking inside the pocket door frame and got a torch. I had trouble discovering the problem but when I did it was obvious.
As the pocket door was slipping shut it works perfectly but when you went to open it the bottom of the door would stick out about an inch and a half. There was not any way as it was at that back of the pocket door frame close to the framing to reach the screw.
It was the sole thing I could think of and would require a simple wall patch and a few paint to make the repair whole. This job took me about one hour to cut the hole and replaced the screw that had fallen out from the pocket door track. I then use some fiberglass drywall tape and some fast setting drywall plaster to repair the wall. This took another hour to complete the drywall correctly.
Some pocket door issues are a little more easy to fix than this one. Most pocket doors seemed to have issues sliding and eventually are left shut, never to be used again. Painting the doors over and over again can actually increase the thickness of the door or the door to swell keeping it from opening correctly can be also caused by excessive moisture in the home over long periods of time.
