Dado Automatic Pocket Doors - Just a couple of months ago I went over to fix a pocket door that was closing in a strange angle. This was the very first time I had ran into this type of situation and was definitely lost. I got a flashlight and started looking within the pocket door frame. I had difficulty finding the problem but when I did it was evident.
As the pocket door was sliding shut it works perfectly but when you went to open it the base of the door would stick out about an inch and a half. The trouble turned out to be the path was missing a screw in the very back so that as the door slid back to the frame the tracking would hang down at an angle in the weight of the doorway. There was not any way to achieve the screw since it was at that back of the pocket door frame close to the framing itself.
This was the only thing I would require a wall patch that is simple and really could think of plus some paint to really make the repair whole. I then use some fiberglass drywall tape and some quick setting drywall plaster to mend the wall. This took another hour to finish the drywall correctly.
Some pocket door troubles are a little easier to fix than this one. Most pocket doors appeared to have troubles sliding and eventually are left shut, never to be used again. Painting the doors over and over again can actually increase the depth of the door or excessive moisture in the home over long periods of time can also make the doorway to swell keeping it from opening correctly.
